The route connects historic sites such as the fortified towns of Gorinchem and Woudrichem, the medieval castle Slot Loevestein, and Fort Vuren, all situated at a remarkable junction of waterways in the heart of the Rivierenland.
The tour begins in Gorinchem, from the charming Lingehaven, and follows one of the most beautiful "pontjesrondjes" (ferry circuits) in the Netherlands. This shorter route, ideal for children and families, includes scenic cycling paths along the river Waal and several ferry crossings. You can start your journey by renting a Donkey Bike at the train station in Leerdam or Gorinchem.
The route is mapped out for you but can easily be shortened to 21 kilometers using the convenient fietsknooppunten (cycling junctions) system. With Riveer’s day pass (€8.50), valid for two consecutive days, you can make unlimited use of all ferries—perfect if you plan to stay longer and explore at your own pace.
