Barcelona is known around the world for consistently good weather year round. Tourism is rampant and many of the sites are well known. Between the Sagrada Familia and all things Gaudí it’s hard to escape the drones of tourist and feel much authenticity. But what about exploring Barcelona like a local? You will find many locals on bikes and between saving money and being able to avoid crowded transport, you get the freedom to create your own adventure. Here are some great locations that you can visit on a bike to avoid the tourism

Sant Felip Neri Square

Ride over to the gothic quarter for a historical atmosphere where you will find a labyrinth of small pathways. If you can find your way through the maze you will find yourself in a small area known as Sant Felip Neri Square, overlooked by the baroque church of Sant Felip Neri which offers some much needed shade on a sunny afternoon you can rest here and take in what was once the city’s shoemakers’ and coppersmiths’ guild.

Pont del Petroli

Want a sea view with smaller crowds? Ride over to Pont del Petroli, a pier that strikes out into the sea. Here you can enjoy sunrise and sunset that rival any other magical location. Feel the fresh sea air and let the water cool you down as you gaze upon the waves. Perfect for a photograph both, on top and below the pier.

Santa Maria del Mar

Not as widely known as the Basílica de la Sagrada Família, Santa Maria del Mar otherwise known as cathedral of La Ribera is one of the only, if not the only surviving church that is built purely in the Catalan Gothic style. Take a Donkey Republic bike, and ride over to the smaller but fascinating church to get away from the huge crowds of other more widely known tourist spots and take in the dark beauty.

Planelles Donat

After all that riding you must want a snack, so check out the slightly hidden but extremely tasty Planelles Donat. With several locations in the city, and recognized as an emblematic landmark of the city of Barcelona, it’s worth a visit to each location. Making Nougat since 1850 they have since added Horchata and Ice cream to help beat off that heat.
