At Donkey we pride ourselves on our internal focus of learning development. We use what is widely known as the growth cycle when it comes to experimental learning. This allows us to constantly develop our product for all riders. By listening to our users through direct feedback, data and more, we establish different learnings that we then put into place to grow our usage, brand and revenue. User Conversion

A recent example of this is our Gen3 bikes which have produced great results; In terms of converting new riders, revenue generation and reduced cost of maintenance. What we have seen based on usage data (in compliance with GDPR regulations) thus far is that the new Gen3 bikes which have started to roll out in Copenhagen convert 35% better than our older models.

What this means is that the new slick design is visually more attractive and thereby stands out amongst the many bikes they may be parked next to, making it for example easier to recognize as a bike-share bike. This in turn gets more eyes on it and therefore has a greater chance to convert people into riders. As an added bonus we saw that our most loyal riders use the new Gen3 bike twice as frequently, compared to the Gen2 bikes. Revenue Generation To follow up on this usage we investigated how more usage affects the revenue generation. From prior experimental learnings we know this is an important data point to look at and not assume it would lead to greater revenue. When we compare our older models to the new Gen3 bikes we saw more than a 30% increase in revenue generation. This is based on a number of factors such as: longer ride times per user, overall more riders on each bike, and a better brand identity among locals since tourism is still rather low due to Covid.   Maintenance Cost Sometimes we have to look internally into our products. While listening to and looking at riders for information our very own shepherds also (mechanics) have plenty to say. We were able to gage that the new Gen3 bikes are even sturdier, robust and easier to maintain. This has reduced the total cost of maintenance by 30%.   Overall we take these victories with a huge smile because ultimately until new products are rolled out you can only assume what will happen, no matter the data you may have. This data about the Gen3 bikes, makes us even more hopeful for the future when we eventually roll out the bikes across more markets. We look forward to seeing similar increases in user conversion, revenue generation and across more and more cities.   -Every Ride Counts All above figures are “estimates” based on the available reporting.on the test bikes deployed in Copenhagen during the period Oct 2020 – May 2021. Results and data points may vary when deployed in larger scale and in different locations, seasons and extraordinary circumstances
